Jun. 11th, 2007 12:16 amIt's been awhile since I've enjoyed a book as I did "The Dogs of Babel," by Parkhurst. It's a story about a man whose wife had just died, and the only witness to her death is their dog. The book is like a journey to the past as the main character tries to figure out the mystery behind his wife's death. In the meantime, he tries to get clues from his dog as well. It offered a lot of emotional and intellectual depth. You can really feel the sense of grief and longing.. and finally, a sort of acceptance, by the end of the book. I'm a little sad I finished it really fast, but I couldn't put it down.
Today I'm officially on vacation. Most of the my stuff from school is still scattered around the house. I'm surprised how much I had with me in the apartment. Now I have to figure out how to fit everything back into my room. Also, my parents had an air-conditioner installed for me in my room (yay!). However, they also rearranged all my things so they could put a hole in the wall for the AC.. Bad thing is that I have A LOT of belongings in my room... stuff like cds, electronics, wires, lots and lots of books, misc papers, some of my old toys... Combine this with my things from school and it'll take my forever to sort everything out. It would be awesome to just throw everything into a box and be done with, but I know can't do things like that.
Monday : Sort out my stuff.
Tuesday : Tutor my cousin for her final exam, watch a movie in the evening with friends.
Wed : Going to Magic Mountain with friends.
Oh, the past week was also hectic. I got through my finals easily. Most of the time, my roommates and I were cleaning up our apartment for moving out. We also spent our time saying our final goodbyes to friends who were graduating. It's hard to imagine we might not see any of them again. Friday and Saturday, I went to see two of my friends' graduations. I always feel graduations are long and boring, but I was happy to see them graduate anyway. Today, I was invited to a formal graduation brunch with my friend's family. It was an all-you-can-eat buffet. The food was good, but I was full after just one plate.
Sigh, well, I hope I can use this time to get things in my life organized. The past year I've been so busy with dance practice that sometimes I forgot that I even had a life. I feel a lot more responsible, but at the same time, this year really forced me to look at myself as a person... to see my faults and strengths..
I think I'll be spending most of my time now anticipating my trip to the Philippines in the middle of July. I'm definitely getting excited.
I hope this summer will be good for me.
